More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have worked as an improv comedy instructor with kids, tutored in high-school, and have experience volunteering with children and adults with cognitive and physical challenges.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
With infants I believe in being present and engaging, making sure to practice any milestones and provide detailed observation and feedback to parents. With older children, I love to take them to the playground, play sports, run, dance or anything active and playful. I also emphasize a lot of creative and imaginative play- I'm happy to wear costumes, use silly voices, or play a part to make their imagination come to life. I believe in the power of reading at all ages, and while I'm willing to watch movies or shows if permitted by parents, most of my experience has been with a "no screens" household. Last but not least, I love engaging in art projects of any kind - painting, drawing, stickers, coloring, building inventions from cardboard, you name it.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My number one priority as a nanny is to build a foundation of love and kindness that makes a child feel safe and cared for. Safety is the most essential component of the job, and I believe it has to exist both physically and emotionally.
My experience with special needs children...
I have done volunteer work at Misericordia in Chicago. It is a home and community for people with mild to profound developmental and physical disabilities with a mission for their residence to achieve their full potential. My Aunt, Sister Rosemary Connelly is the founder and executive director of Miz, and my entire family has been involved in their work since I was a kid. I also have a cousin with severe autism, which limits his speech and ability to engage socially. Growing up with him provided a lot of insight into different ways to communicate and approach connecting with someone on the spectrum. He has a wickedly funny sense of humor, when he's encouraged to come out of his shell.
The most important part about being a nanny...
When I moved to New York I was struggling with the loneliness of being in a new place, and the stress of studying in an evening acting conservatory. I also had worries about supporting myself financially. I had worked in a very traditional office environment before moving to pursue my creative passions. I didn't know if nannying would be a good fit for me.
My first full-time nannying job was caring for a two week old baby. One day, when I was feeling a little down and out it hit me- My job was to spend my days with a miracle. I got to sit and stare at a perfect little person with so much potential and life ahead of them. The responsibility to care for her wasn't only a job but a profound privilege. One that lifted my soul and brought me a renewed sense of gratitude and joy. Right there and then, I knew I had no plans to return to an office life.

Live-In Full-Time Child Care Provider Available in New York, NY: Lacey W.
Hello! My name is Lacey and I would love for you to consider me for this position. I’m a college freshman studying in Madison, Wisconsin, USA but I’m looking for something to spice up my life and I came across this idea. I’m very passionate about traveling as well as childcare. I have had dozens of babysitting/nannying jobs for about 6+ years now. I have been taking a bit of a break for school but would love to get back into it. I also love to cook and bake, and would consider myself to be good at cleaning- I am working a janitorial job at a car wash currently. I finished high school a semester early being ahead in math and getting fairly good test scores, so I could also help with tutoring. I am happy to help families that have pets or children with special needs. I also do not discriminate whatsoever against any race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. If it sounds like I could be a good fit for your family please get back to me!
