Maria, one of my foster sisters, was born with Down syndrome. I was with her for nine years. A few of my other siblings had autism ranging from severe to mild, and it was my responsibility to take care of them. Currently, I'm taking care of a boy with special needs for 7 months and I believe he has improved a lot from when I have started.

My favorite memory is the day I saw the boy I am taking care for take his first steps, despite the fact that he was using a walker. Knowing that all of my hard work and time had paid off, and seeing him take his first steps made me very happy.
