I love engaging in sensory play and finding ways to make every day activities into learning opportunities. Some of my favorites include building independence through things like baking, themed arts & crafts, active games indoors and outdoors for proprioceptive development, and practicing life skills via public outings (parks, libraries, etc) when safe to do so.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part of being a nanny for me is watching kids learn. There's nothing better than working on a skill with a child for awhile, finally getting it to click one day, and seeing how much pride it brings for them.
My experience with special needs children...
I have experience with total care such as G-Tube feeding, medication administration, toileting, diapering for older children, and bathing. I also have some experience communicating through an AAC device and handling wheelchairs.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite nanny moments, and one I still tell as a story to this day, is about one of my previous 11mo NKs (nanny kids). We were in the playroom having giggle fits on a massive beanbag when her dad came into the room. When he asked her "are you being a crazy girl?" she looked at him, looked at me, and then looked back to him while pointing straight to me. We both laughed so hard and I will never forget it.
