A little bit about me

Hey there, I'm Emmalyn, a loving, experienced nanny of kids all ages, specializing in newborn and infant care. I love working with children while also being a reliable, dynamic resource. I'm always following your baby's rhythms, and learning their cues. Activities include those that build strength and contribute to their over all development. Typical days include storytime, tummy time, outings to a park/playground, independent play time, baby babble, and occasional age appropriate art projects.

Ultimately I strive to bring harmony into your home by emphasizing whole family well-being, which includes meal prep, light housework, animal care, gardening, etc. I've supported homeschoolers, work from home parents, and families who set my schedule months in advance. I have immediate part time availability (10-15 hours per week) and full time availability mid-July. At that time, I'd ideally love to be hired by one family full time (or near full time), or two families (both part-time).

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Through college I supported myself with babysitting gigs, and in 2013, turned my love of childcare into a professional job. My preference is to work with you long term, a minimum of six-months. I've supported families anywhere between 1-5 years, forging strong bonds with parents and children alike.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Your child's age will determine the types of activities we will and can do together. For newborns there is a lot of holding, stroller walking, story time, and tummy time, all the while following their hunger, digestion, and sleeping cues. As your child becomes more active in their infant and toddler years, we can go for walks, visit the playground, listen to music, and do occasional age appropriate art projects. From 3 years onward I'm happy to take your child to the library, go for a museum visit, or take a stroll around the neighborhood and stop by a local cafe for tea.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Oh my gosh, there are so many important parts about being a nanny! You undoubtedly want me to be a responsible, trustworthy, and an experienced caretaker, which I am. As your nanny, I will respect your scheduling wishes, and if you don't have any, I will intuit when your child is hungry, thirsty, tired, needs to use the bathroom/have diaper changed, etc. I am a "behavior leader", mirror your child's emotions, and offer gentle reframing when they struggle to get back to their center. My work is also a delicate balance of providing care for you the parent. Being away from your child can be hard. You are paying me when maybe you really want to be with them. What can I do while I'm caretaking that will also contribute toward improving your quality of time at home? We can discuss your individual needs as a family and the ways I also offer dynamic family support when spending time with your child.

My experience with special needs children...

In my earlier years as a babysitter I cared for a number of children with autism, ADD, and ADHD. In one case the child I cared for was autistic as well as learning delayed. Our time together was mostly spent outdoors walking her dog, reading simple books, watching movies, and playing active outside games as well as board games. In all cases where I'm working with a child that has some kind of attention or learning challenge, experience has taught me that staying calm, reflecting emotions, and giving space for processing is often a winning solution to bring them back to a place where they can engage and communicate more effectively.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One child I worked with for a number of years was having a really hard day when his parents left for work in the morning. I think at this point he was 3 or maybe 4 years old. Upon leaving for work his mom reminded him that she loved him and hoped they could have a big hug when she got home from work. He cooled down quite a bit after she left and a couple of hours before she got home I asked if he was ready for her to come back and to give her a big hug. I think by this time he had forgotten all about it, but I could see that he was both excited for her to come home and still a bit mad. We decided together it would be great to do something for her, which was really also something for him. He chose to make her a card. When she got home that night, he had a sort of shy look on his face, gave her the card, said "I'm mad at you!" and gave her a huge hug, which on the inside he had me write "I love you." Everyone laughed. It was a really sweet and precious nanny moment.
