The year I taught preschool I had a kiddo that wasn't quite 2 yet and hadn't started talking, he was also generally quite, communicating through simple sign language vs baby babble. One of my favorite memories was him coming up to me at recess and saying "ball" while also signing it for the first time. He finally felt confident/comfortable enough to use his voice, it was an awesome experience!
