My name is Shauntel and I’m looking to be your nanny!

My background: I was born in New York and grew up between New York, Toronto and Kingston, Jamaica! I have babysat since I was 12 years old, and became a nanny during my undergrad years at the University of British Columbia. I nannied for a family in Vancouver, BC for approximately 3.5 years, from the time the little was 8 months old to the time that the little girl was 2 years old. I have babysat/nannied for families with multiple children, newborns as young as 2 months old, and children with developmental delays. I enjoy yoga, cooking & baking (mainly plant-based), and going for long walks (thank you, lockdown). With the children, we enjoyed going to science museums, the library and different children's programs at the local community centre.

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Going for walks, attending educational and fun classes at the local community centre, going to museums, and having picnics in the park. We also enjoyed doing arts and crafts, cooking and baking, and reading books (mainly on penguins and dinosaurs!) together.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Is being able to practice patience and love for the children regardless of whatever else is happening in my life.

My experience with special needs children...

During high school, I babysat for a family with two children where the eldest (a four year old boy) had autism. I have also been a mentor for 3 persons with developmental delays (autism and Down Syndrome) for over a decade with Best Buddies Canada.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny moment was when the little boy I began nannying when he was 8.5 months old began taking his first steps - he had taken a few while on vacation with his family. When they returned, they said he had a new trick to show me, and he beelined it for me to get a hug after 2 weeks apart from each other!
