Sara S. - Seeking Work in San Tan Valley
Sara S.
San Tan Valley$22.85/hr  |  < 1 yr experience
I have spent the vast majority of my life working with children. I have had the privilege of being a nanny for a family for approximately 5 years, I have co-owned a daycare with my mother, I have been a babysitter for several families, and I have been a teacher. I love children and being around them. As a nanny, I feel my job is to make the job of the parents a little easier. I am very willing to cook, clean, help with laundry, and run errands. Homework and extra-curricular activities are very important for children, and I am capable of helping with tutoring or sports, getting children to and from activities and making sure they are where they should be, when they should be. I am very organized and capable of doing many tasks at one time. The children are, and always will be, my main focus. I have been developing my personal childcare style since my sister (who is seven years younger than me) was born. I am strict and firm and I stick to the rules. I am, however, a very caring, compassionate person. I have always been a very loving person and I have learned over the years that a child who knows they are loved is more willing to do what is expected. I am very organized and task-oriented. I believe work should come first (i.e. homework, chores, etc), but I am very fun-loving as well and believe that there is a time to play. I am going back to school for a degree in Chemical Engineering and I am looking for a long term commitment.

Emily watched my baby while I was at work. I was close by and would always come nurse on my lunch. I saw Emily work with all the babies including my own; caring for them, playing with them, rocking them, and just being a consistent in their life. My daughter loved her which was huge because she was extremely shy and didn't like many people outside her family. - Alicia

Understand Babysitter Responsibilities in San Tan Valley, AZ

Before beginning the search for a babysitter, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a babysitter is the right choice for your child care needs. There are lots of benefits to hiring a babysitter such as getting the flexibility of having some more time for yourself or with your partner. When hiring a babysitter, first, you should explore the differences between a nanny and a babysitter. If you’re looking for occasional child care, babysitters are the right choice for you, but if you’re looking for more frequent care, a nanny may be better for your needs.

From there, you can think about what you expect your babysitter to handle so that you can create a profile for nannies to reach out to you. The boundaries for babysitters’ duties can vary from family to family. However, in general, a babysitter is responsible for making sure your kids’ needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example to housekeeping, laundry, or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your babysitter before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location in San Tan Valley can impact how much you pay your babysitter.

San Tan Valley Babysitter Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective babysitters, the next step is to conduct an interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some babysitter interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a babysitter?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open and comfortable doing?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Arizona?
  • Do you have a Arizona driver’s license? Do you own a car?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a babysitter that you’re considering hiring, make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your babysitter. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around babysitter responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming!

And of course, as you learn how to hire a babysitter, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
