I treat my job as not just a nanny job, but every moment is a teachable moment in a variety of different ways. Some things I enjoy doing with the kids; I love taking them on nature walks. I utilize kid-appropriate, educational and creativity videos for lessons. I encourage reading, coloring, drawing and games. I am a strong advocate for imaginative play and exploring outdoors. I go into the next day with something new for them to learn. I listen to what they like and then make fun lessons from that.

I am currently a substitute teacher with a degree in Early Childhood and Elementary education. I am also a graduate student studying Literacy at Buffalo State College. Caring for children has been a big part of my life and career. I have experience caring for infants and children up to age 13. I currently babysit for families in Orchard Park, but only occasionally when they go out for dinner etc. I just finished a long-term substitute position in a first grade classroom while the teacher was out on maternity leave. It was a wonderful opportunity and really expanded my childcare experience. I have helped with potty-training, making dinner/lunch/breakfast, getting children on the bus and ready for school in the morning, laundry, cleaning, and of course lots of TLC! Besides substitute teaching and babysitting, I was a teacher at a daycare in Ohio (were I attended school for my undergrad)caring for children in the toddler classroom! Also, over the summer I was the school-age teacher at EDUkids in Hamburg for their summer camp program!

I come from a big family and began babysitting my younger cousins when I was about 14 years old. From then on, I started babysitting for family friends, and soon enough the friends of family friends all through high school and even college (I guess word of mouth spreads quickly when it comes to child care in a small town!). This included cooking meals and preparing snacks, after school homework help, house cleaning (I love to clean!), and laundry. When I was 18, I began working for the city at different playgrounds every summer. As a playground attendant, I scheduled activities to fill up each day (such as water balloons or macaroni bracelets) and basically just played games with kids all day, I looked forward to it every summer! Although I don't have any children of my own, I have 7 nieces and nephews who I absolutely adore, and spend as much time with as possible.

I have had babysitting jobs since I was 15 years old with children in diverse age groups. I was the neighborhood babysitter growing up, continued babysitting in college, and I am currently babysitting for an amazing family. Unfortunately, they can only hire me part time and I need about 40 hours a week so i can put myself back in to school. I currently act as a tutor/babysitter for a 7 and 10 year old, who are wonderful.

Starting when I was nine years old, I would go on babysitting jobs with my older sisters. When I turned 11 I was able to supervise children all by myself. I babysat for a family consistently from when I was nine years old until I was 16 or 17. This family had four little girls. One daughter was severly allergic to milk and anything with milk/whey/dairy products in it. I would cook, clean (not required or asked of me), drive the kids to the parks, etc. Since then I have been to Russia to teach young children, ages 3-7 the English language, however, I do not speak any russian. I have babysat for my older sister frequently over the past few years for my two nephews and I get along with most children wonderfully. I like to keep kids active and learning so that they enjoy their time with me. I like to keep them laughing and happy! :)
