A little bit about us

Considering a live-in nanny starting in August 2026. We're looking for someone who is kind, compassionate, and flexible. The ideal candidate understands that last minute schedule changes happen.

Our daughter is currently 3 years old and attends pre-school. Our son is 1 and currently in daycare. We are expecting a third in April 2026.

I work in Manhattan Mon-Th and at home on Fridays. My typical hours M-Th are leave by 8am and home by 7pm. I travel fairly often for work. My husband is a firefighter and works a couple of overnight shifts per week. His schedule varies weekly, but typically for day shifts, he leaves by 7am and is home by 6pm. On days where he works overnight, he leaves by 3:30pm and is home by 10am the next day. We try our best to not both be away on the same night (but last minute schedule changes/flight delays have happened before).

Generally speaking, this nanny would care for our infant during the day and pick up daughter and son from their schools and watch them until one of us comes home from work in the evening or overnight if the above situation happens (again, rare). We'd expect the nanny to care for all three children on days when schools are closed (meaning school holidays e.g. election day, not weekends) or if it's a sick day/snow day and we're both working. We expect some light housekeeping and dinner prep for the children.

We have a very sweet, friendly dog who mostly keeps to herself but will need to be let out in the backyard from time to time.

The living space for this nanny is a finished bedroom in our attic and their own full bathroom. They are of course welcome in any common area in the house.

What is an Infant Nanny in Douglaston, NY

Preparing for a Nanny Interview for an Infant Care Position

Once you start connecting with prospective employers, the next step is an infant nanny job interview. Here is a list of some infant nanny interview questions to prepare for:

  • What is your specific experience with this age group?
  • Are you Infant CPR/First Aid certified in Douglaston, NY? Are you willing to be trained?
  • How do you handle a crying baby?
  • How often do you usually offer parents updates during the day?
  • What do you feed an infant? At 0-3 months? 3-6 months? 6-9 months? 9-12 months?
  • How do you set up the infant’s crib for a nap?
  • What kind of activities will you plan to engage my baby?

You should be prepared with your references for past nanny jobs, and ideally, past infant jobs. Prior to the infant nanny interview, be sure to think about questions that you might have for the family. This is a great time to ask questions about the responsibilities and compensation for the infant nanny position. To make sure everyone has a shared understanding of the role and responsibilities, we recommend asking for a job offer or a nanny contract. By doing this, you can get off on the right foot with your future employer.
