Lake Forest$15.68/hr  |  < 1 yr experience
I've been babysitting since I was 12 on and off, but there have been long bouts of time with specific families- the longest was my last family who lives in LA, and it lasted 18 months (I was actually very sad to leave her, they kind of adopted me into the family, but she lives so far from my home!). For this family I was picking up their daughter from school several days a week, helping with homework/tutoring, taking her to play dates and activities, making dinners, and all around playing with and entertaining her. For the last year I have been a nanny for a family with three children, 6 year old twins and a 10 year old. I cared for them over vacations and during school would pick them up, help with homework and take them to after school activities. Before that family, I watched a two year old a few days a week during the summer while her parents worked. We went to the park, went on walks, played at home and ate lunch. Her parents were using "Baby Wise" so I had to be mindful of that and be sure to treat her the specific way they wanted me to. I also have experience watching multiple children at once. When I was younger and couldn't drive, I watched my neighbors children- two neighbors who have three children each. One family had 3 girls, an infant, a 3 year old, and a 10 year old. We played at the house and at the park while their mother ran errands, went to church and worked. The other neighbor has one boy and two younger girls. I had to play with them all in such a way that they were all entertained and not fighting, as they were prone to do. I also watched my father's co-worker's two children. She called them her little monsters because of their behavioral issues, but with me they were fine. We played, swam, did crafts, and went to the park while she worked and they were fine. I love doing crafts with my charges- I always try to bring fun things to do when I know the children I'm caring for like creativity (and almost always they do). Aside from true babysitting, I have a lot of experience with my family's children. One cousin especially has me watch hers quite often, she has a son who is 7 and a daughter who is 10 months.
