Location: Dumfries / Woodbridge, Virginia
Summer Travel: San Diego, California
I am looking for a compassionate and dependable live in nanny to help care for my 3 year old son, Holden. He is a sweet, energetic little boy who attends Montessori school Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The weekday schedule focuses on his morning and evening routine. In the morning, I need help starting around 6:30 AM with getting him up, preparing breakfast, getting him dressed, and helping him get ready for school. I typically take him to school around 8:00 AM or 8:30 AM.
I usually pick him up from school around 5:00 PM or 5:30 PM. In the evening, I need help having dinner ready, feeding him, cleaning up after meals, playtime, occasional bath time, and helping him get ready for bed around 8:00 PM.
Full day availability is required on Saturdays. We enjoy taking Holden to playgrounds, fairs, festivals, splash pads, water parks, museums, and family friendly activities. I am looking for someone active and engaged who enjoys outings with young children.
The position includes two days off each week, scheduled during the week. My partner lives in San Diego, and we coparent between the East Coast and West Coast. The nanny must be comfortable traveling between Northern Virginia and San Diego during the summer as needed.
Additional responsibilities include preparing meals and snacks for Holden, light child related laundry, keeping his room and play areas organized, and helping maintain a safe environment.
The ideal candidate has experience caring for toddlers or preschool age children, a valid driver’s license and clean driving record, CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it, and an interest in a stable, long term position.
Private living accommodations, room, bathroom, utilities, and meals are included. Salary is competitive and based on experience.

Types of Live-In Nanny Jobs and Nanny Responsibilities in Woodbridge, VA
Before you start looking for a live-in nanny job, it's essential to make sure you’re looking for the right opportunities by learning about the different types of nanny jobs and how they compare to each other.
Most nanny jobs vary in responsibilities and time commitment (e.g. the number of hours worked each week or the length of the commitment). There are temporary live-in nanny jobs, even seasonal nanny jobs like summer live-in nanny jobs. Beyond seasonal and temporary live-in nanny positions, there are differences between full-time live-in and part-time live-in nanny jobs. Given that live in nanny positions can be exactly what some families want, it's very important to create a shared set of expectations around hours, responsibilities, and what is expected of you when you're not on the clock.
How to Interview for Live-In Nanny Jobs in Woodbridge, VA
Once you start connecting with prospective employers, the next step is a live-in nanny job interview. Here is a list of some live-in nanny interview questions you should ask:
- Can you tell me about where in the house I will live? Will I have my own bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, etc? Do I have my own entrance?
- What are your expectations around the cleanliness and tidiness of my living quarters?
- What level of privacy can I expect after hours?
- Will I have a curfew in the evenings when I am in charge of the kids the next day?
- Can I have guests over during my days off and only with the employers prior agreement? Am I allowed guests overnight?
Beyond asking these questions, families will want you to have your nanny references ready and ask any questions to show initiative. The nanny job interview is an excellent opportunity to get aligned on the nanny job expectations. By doing this, you can get off on the right foot with your future employer.
