In my nannying experience I was a live-in nanny and cared for 2 children under the age of 4 in Key West, FL. I had my own room but shared the downstairs bathroom with everyone-which didn’t bother me. I drove them to and from school, helped potty train, bathed and helped them get dressed in the morning, and took them to the playground or beach for exercise. In the household I was responsible for keeping the house clean to a professional level while the kids were in school (their mother is the owner of a cleaning service so the standards were high, and I gained a high awareness to detail), which included laundry, dishes, light yard work, and occasional grocery shopping and meal preparation.
In addition to my nanny experience I have worked for a preschool. Along with one other co-worker we were responsible for 8 infants. We kept track of each child’s eating, napping and diaper change schedule to report back to parents. I was then moved up to the 2 and 3 year old room where I had 6 toddlers to myself and I was responsible for potty training and changing diapers, eating and nap schedule, coming up with arts and crafts projects, and outside play monitoring.
I have also taught as the home-room teacher for 17 first graders.
When I was 18 I participated in a program called YWAM, where I studied for 3 months and then traveled for 3 months all over the south pacific, volunteering in schools, preparing after school programs, and learning about the culture in Australia, New Zealand, and the Cook Islands. (The program is almost a short version of the Peace Corps)
I am one of 6 kids. I grew up in a small house in Lawrence, KS. I now have 2 nephews and a niece. I grew up around babies whether it was my siblings or kids my mom was taking care of. I am an artist, my degree is in Graphic Design. I am hard working, easy to live with (I’m not easily bothered). I am willing to work overtime if given advanced notice.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Kansas City, KS

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Kansas City Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Kansas City? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Kansas City?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in KS? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
