I have worked with children for over 10 years, starting as a baby sitter, and moving into tutoring, coaching and most recently as a lead preschool teacher. I have worked with all age groups and am comfortable with special needs children be it mental, physical or behavioral. I work very well with children who are very energetic, strong willed, and can be challenging in regards to behavior. I enjoy children of all personalities, and am willing to learn more about specific conditions to be a more effective caregiver. I am comfortable with multiple children and age groups and have had years of experience with multiple children.

Having grown up with 7 siblings and tons of cousins, I have always been surrounded by kids. I began babysitting in 6th grade, and my love for children has only grown in the past 7 yrs. as I have had the opportunity to care for children of all ages in many settings. In high school, I worked as Personal Assistant for an 11 yr. old girl with a severe form of the developmental disorder Rett Syndrome and several other serious health issues. As her caretaker, I bathed and dressed her, put on her body braces, gave her breathing treatments, and administered medication and meals to her through a feeding tube. This summer, I worked as a part-time nanny for a 10 yr. old girl and her 13 yr. old brother. As their caretaker, I kept peace between brother and sister, oversaw children's chores and academic work, transported them to/from appointments and activities, planned outings, and completing assigned household duties such as cleaning, preparing meals, and doing laundry. I have continued to babysit many families (kids ranging in age from 2 mo. to 13), and I have almost 3 yrs. of experience and professional training at Kumon Math & Reading Center, where I work primarily with children 3-7 yrs focusing on counting & addition skills as well as alphabet letters/sounds & early reading. I have also volunteered extensively at church, helping in VBS 4 yrs. and 2 yrs. in nursery. As a summer teen camp counselor this year, I was responsible for a cabin of jr high girls.

Most recently I was a full time nanny for twins, who are 17 months old. I started with them at the age of 3 weeks, and only left because my husband got a new job out of state. I am a dedicated hard worker, who tries to go above and beyond everyday! Before I nannied for the twins, I taught at a private preschool/kindergarten where I was first a head teacher in a 3 year old classroom then a head infant room teacher. I come with over 13 years of experience taking care of children outside of my immediate family. I was an elementary education major at Arizona State University and also have ABA certifications which stand for Autism Behavior Analysis. For 4 years I was an Autism behavior therapist, going home to home helping families learn to teach and deal with behavior issues in their child diagnosed on the spectrum. On top of all this, i have also nannied for multiple families, who all hold a special place in my heart.

My first experiences in child care occurred on the home front. As a sister to 5 younger siblings, I cannot pinpoint a particular time at which I began caring for children. I transitioned from being Mom's special helper and a playmate to giving stroller rides, changing diapers, and eventually to keeping an eye on whoever was home while my mom was out. In high school, I had the occasional babysitting job, and continued to gain experience with kids through volunteer work at my church. My first caregiving job was for an 11 yr. old girl with a severe form of the developmental disorder Rett syndrome. As her caretaker, it was my responsibility to bathe and dress her, put her body braces on, give her breathing treatments, and administer medication and meals to her through a feeding tube. I also have 3 yrs. experience with more traditional nanny jobs where I provided some housekeeping, meal prep., and transportation; as well as organized play dates and excursions, planned activities, etc.

I have been a professional nanny for over 5 years, plus 2 years when I was younger. However I have taken care of, mentored and helped raise many children for over 35 years, including 2 amazing women of my own. I have so much more love to give and I would love to help raise other children. I love laughter, hearing laughter from a child is like music to my ears, especially giggling. Also, reading, arts and crafts, games and any outdoor sports. I try to photograph the children in all of their activities for the parents. Plus teaching children to have respect for themselves, their families and have confidence in themselves. I have excellent references and I'm very good at what I do. I also love animals too. Thank you so much and have a great day! Thanks, Sheila Carper 214-552-9271

Hi, My name is Becca. I have about 9 years of childcare experience. I am currently attending college online through Dallas. I am a Early Childhood -6th Grade Education Major and Child Development is my minor. I have worked as a nanny for two families. One family with four kids (ages 4,5,9,13)and one family with two kids (ages 12, 15). With both nanny jobs I was responsible for homework help, meals, bath and bed time (on occasion), home schooling a four year old, driving to activities, overnight jobs, and household chores and general home management. I have multiple years of daycare experience. In daycares I was the lead afterschool and summer camp teacher, that included lesson plans, driving a van, homework help and tutoring, trips, snacks, cooking with kids, handling multiple behaviors and arts and crafts, among other daily classroom management tasks. I have experience with special needs as well. I volunteered at Special Needs cooking classes for about 3 years. I spent a semester shadowing a special needs teacher, and her students. Parent communication is extremely important to me. I believe that when you place a child in any type of care the caregiver should have an open line of communication with the parents.

What are some common responsibilities for nannies in McKinney, TX?

As a parent, it’s natural for you to ask your nanny for a little extra help around the house. However, the boundaries for a nannies duties vary from person to person. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met. This includes things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active, that they have a healthy diet and a sanitary home. When tasks go beyond child care, for example scrubbing kitchen counters, folding laundry, gathering groceries, or teaching a language, you will likely need to provide additional compensation.

How can I ensure I have a great relationship with my nanny?

To start, it’s important you set expectations and are aligned on compensation from day one. This includes outlining vacation days, a protocol for sick days, and everything else you would want your own employer to cover. From here, spend time getting to know them. Take your nanny out one of McKinney’s great restaurants, learn about their childhood, and discuss your parenting philosophy. Finally, be sure to resolve conflicts as they arise. Open communication is crucial to ensuring a healthy long-term relationship.
