I have been involved with caring for children (ages newborn-12) for several years; as I have three siblings who are much younger than me. I helped my Mother (on bed-rest at the time) when I was 13 in caring for my siblings and managing household obligations, so I am very capable by now in running a home with children involved. I was also a Mother's helper for a family of eight children from the age of 12-17. I took part in caring for children, cleaning, laundry etc. I have done several other smaller baby-sitting/mother's helper situations as well, including cleaning jobs mother's needed help getting their deep cleaning done! I have worked with multiple families, with different lifestyles and needs. Several of the children I watched, -including my brother- have special needs, and so I have experience in that area, particularly with Autism/Aspergers. I also have experience handling multiple children: i.e. 5 young children in a Mother's helper situation (often left alone with them to watch for hours on end), at home with my siblings, and in leading a Children's choir/working a nursery in my Church. I am also an accomplished cook, being able to bake/cook very well for different dietary needs. My entire family has become gluten free and so I am very experienced working with a gluten free diet; as well as some knowledge on dairy free/sugar free/other dietary needs. People often describe me as energetic, fun, genuine, and honest. I am very enthusiastic in whatever I am doing, so I would be very excited to do what I love the most- work with children!

I started babysitting my 7 year old brother when I was 12 and when I was about 13 I began babysitting for family friends. One of the first memories I can recall was a family that was renting out our old house and had 4 children the youngest about 5 and the oldest 11 or 12. It was one of the most challenging babysitting experiences i have ever had! the children were so misbehaved and undisciplined and they ran all over the place, spilling soup and food on the floors and writing on the walls with crayons. One by one i settled them down, bathed them and read to them so that they finally fell asleep, so I do understand and can handle well and responsibly children who are rowdy, energetic or who don't always get along with new adults! In addition to this I have babysat two precious red head sisters since 2007, and at that time the youngest was barely a year old. The family loves me and I have been their long time babysitter all these years. I've watched neighbors kids late into the night, in one situation the brother ( at the time ) was 2 and his sister 3 and in the other family the kids were 5 and 7. I've honestly been really lucky with babysitting because 80% of the families I've babysat for have been really well behaved children who are easy and fun to take care of. however there are the times where sibling fight and don't get a long and so i am seasoned in conflict resolution and i have helped in some cases walk the kids through the problem and talk about it with each other so that they can forgive and get a long in the future! and that is always really fun for me to do. I have experience driving kids around, taking them to eat and such. I know how to bathe, brush teeth, dress and read to babies and little ones when it's bed time :)i have made all kinds of meals as well, i love to cook and i have included kids with me when baking cookies or brownies and they always love that. When I babysit i make it a priority to take the children outside, even if it's just for a few minutes. (unless it's really cold or snowing or rainy) because I love nature and the outdoors and i believe that kids need fresh air and to be in the open outdoors and that it's really healthy for children as they grow up to have that incorporated into their lives. i chose to play games and puzzles and paint and play with clay over TV and movies every single time i watch kids. i don't like TV at all and i love love love interacting and watching children figure things out and play hands on while they are learning. Overall I have had a large and diverse range of babysitting experience, from young kids to almost pre-teens. I have loved and taken care of every one with care and gentleness which i why most of the parents i still occasionally babysit for have kept me the main babysitter all these years. not only to the kids love me but i am a part of all these families and they are all very dear to me! I will love your kids well, and I will love them fully if you chose to give me that chance.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Stanwood, WA

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Stanwood Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Stanwood? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Stanwood?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in WA? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
