During my first year teaching at a Title I Middle Years Programme (MYP) school, I have implemented a range of IB-aligned instructional strategies designed to promote inquiry-based learning and support a diverse group of learners. I consistently use the inquiry cycle to guide students in formulating questions, investigating authentic, real-world issues, and reflecting on their learning process. Differentiation is a key part of my practice, allowing me to scaffold and extend learning according to students’ individual needs and readiness levels. Through collaborative learning experiences such as group projects and Socratic seminars, I encourage students to engage with multiple perspectives and develop IB learner profile attributes such as open-mindedness and principled thinking. By incorporating concept-based instruction and exploring global contexts, I help students make meaningful interdisciplinary connections and see the relevance of their learning in a broader, real-world context.
