Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I've been a nanny and a babysitter since I was about 12 years old. I grew up watching neighbor kids, and as I got older I took on some local babysitting and nannying jobs, as well as helping nanny for my 5 nieces and nephews throughout the last 10 years. I also briefly was a nanny for a very busy family in Lake Oswego; I did some housework for them, drove the kids to and from their various appointments, helped them with their homework, fixed them lunch and snacks, and helped set up for their dinner.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love to do crafts such as yarn work and drawing/painting, as well as physical activities like hiking, playing catch or simple sports, and yoga. I'm also very fond of puzzles and board games. I've very open to trying new activities that interest the kids I'm looking after.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I think its very important to make sure that kids feel heard and listened to, and that gentle words and patience are key. I also make a point of setting time aside for bad days and big emotions.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite experiences I've had was teaching some little ones how to play frisbee. At first they really struggled, either throwing the frisbee off some random way or crashing into the ground. With some time and encouragement, we figured it out and were playing catch with the best of them. I loved seeing how proud of themselves they were, and we quit when they finally got bored of it.
