More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
One of the most formative life experiences I have had was working at Adirondack Woodcraft Camp in upstate New York. Throughout the eight-week program, I was responsible for a cabin of girls. This taught me what it takes to care for children full-time and helped me realize my passion for it. Duties included all-night supervision, encouraging and maintaining a clean living space, keeping campers on schedule, leading backpacking trips, etc.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I take great pride in the effort I put into caring for children. It is important to me that children are stimulated with healthy, enjoyable activities. Some indoor activities I enjoy doing with children include cooking, baking, art projects, imaginative games, and finding creative ways to make chores fun! Spending time outdoors with children is so fun so I often take children I care for on frequent walks, play active games, and do scavenger hunts.
The most important part about being a nanny...
is that I feel like a safe space for the children. This is why I think it is so critical to find the balance between being friendly and fun but also being respected. Having open and honest communication with the parents is also essential.
My experience with special needs children...
A few years ago I interned at a non-profit organization called the Root Farm. One of my main duties was assisting special needs children with therapeutic horseback riding lessons, as well as other farm activities. The majority of the children were autistic ranging in verbal abilities.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment is whenever kids get so excited for me to come over! As a child, I had a really hard time being away from my mom so it means a lot that the kids I care for get so excited to spend time with me.
A specific moment that made me feel so special as a caregiver was when I left camp for a few days and when I returned all of my campers ran over and attacked me with hugs and told me how much they missed me. It made me feel so loved!
