More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
My childcare journey started when I was in high school. I worked at a summer camp with children aged 4-6 years old for multiple summers. Post college, I returned to the childcare field as an assistant teacher— initially at a Montessori school for a few months (I worked in the 2 year old class, 3 year old class, and occasionally the infant room), then took on a temporary role at an elementary school (I worked in a second grade class!), then spent the following year at a daycare in the 2 year old classroom. I have also been babysitting for over a year now with children ranging from 18 months to 4 years old, and more recently a 12 month old.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Some of my favorite things are taking children to the park, library, or museum! I really love to experience fun activities outside the home, it almost feels like a little field trip for us :) When we’re inside, I love to host little dance parties with fun music or draw/paint together! My favorite thing to draw with children is cartoon characters— Bluey has been a hit for most of them!
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important thing about being a nanny is having patience. While being a nanny comes with lots of fun times, it’s also important to know how to handle the more difficult moments. Sometimes children have off days— they test boundaries, they throw tantrums, they show big emotions. And it’s our job to handle these situations in a safe, consistent, manner. It is crucial to keep patience at all times for both the child’s development and the bond that we share. Being a nanny means being a safe space for the child, and always knowing how to show up for them when they need it, not just when it’s fun to
The most important part about being a nanny...
It isn’t exactly a nanny moment, but one of my favorite moments comes from when I worked in a daycare as a teacher assistant. It was towards the end of the year with my two year old class— most of them had already turned three and had been showing major growth and development compared to the beginning of the year. I was so excited watching and noticing all of their changes, and one in particular had taken an interest to drawing. She started off just drawing circles, but one day drew a picture of a circle with a smiley face in it, with 4 lines around it (that seemed to resemble 2 arms and 2 legs). When someone asked her what she drew she said “I drew Sage”. It felt so exciting and heartwarming that the first real picture she ever drew was of me, after spending a whole year together it made me feel as though we created a real bond. It was a super sweet moment that I’ll always remember :)
