Northeast Portland, Portland$18/hr  |  16 yrs experience
Hi, I’m Justina! I have been nannying for 7 years for ages ranging from newborn to 12. I’ve been working for the same families for the 7 years. My nanny kids and I have had many fun adventures over the years like hiking, day trips, sleepovers & swimming. For my school aged children I’ve been a tutor and general homework help. I am going to be moving to Portland early this fall and sad to be leaving my kiddos, but excited for a new adventure.
I am currently in school to become a dental therapist. When I have free time, I like to spend as much time as possible outside. I love hiking, fishing and camping.

My name is Mac and I'm interested in a part-time nanny opportunity in Portland, OR!

A bit about me: Currently, I am seeking a part-time to full-time nanny opportunity while I'm in graduate school at George Fox University. My husband, puppy (Hank) and I live in Northeast Portland. In the past, I have nannied and tutored for families and found the experiences rewarding. & Brooke B
Portland$22.50/hr  |  1 kid
We are looking to have an infant join us in a nanny share 3-5 days per week in NE Portland. Our daughter Iris is almost 8 months old. Nanny has been with the same family for almost 5 years, but will be transitioning to our family in Feburary because they only need her for school pick up and drop off. Her schedule for the share is Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:30-4:30. She is also open Tuesdays and Thursday, but those would be non-share hours. She is currently pursuing her degree in elementary education. Family will need to be comfortable with outings as nanny will be taking Iris to baby sign and swim lessons. Other family will not be required to participate in the classes, but other child would have to join the nanny when dropping off Iris. We also have a zoo and OMSI membership and plan to have many outings at those locations in the spring/summer. We also have 2 dogs, a golden doodle and boxer. They both grew up with our 11 year old, so they are extremely friendly and good with children.

Northeast Portland, Portland$18/hr  |  1 kid
Hi! We are seeking a NE family with a 3 year old who is looking for part-time care. We'll be doing Tuesday/Thursday 9-1.

Our 3 year old is very sweet, shy, and a bookworm who likes to hike and romp at playgrounds.

We have a wonderful nanny who started with us in October. She was previously with a family who is very close to us, and they are moving on to preschool, and sad to end their time with her. She has a preschool background, and extensive experience with kids. Mid-30s, very kind soul.

We just moved to NE, near 29th and Fremont, after 6 years in SE Portland. Hoping to host at our house and are very open to co-hosting back and forth.

We don't do screen-time at home, and try to get outside every day rain or shine. Healthy snacks are a must.

Please reach out if you'd like to share with us!

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Portland, OR

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Portland Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Portland? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Portland?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in OR? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
