I play softball, and I am a very active person. I am okay with working with children with special needs, as long as you inform me about the condition. A little bit about me

My name is Amanda and I am a current junior at Virginia Commonwealth University. I study psychology and am aspiring to become a guidance counselor in the future. I have been working with children of all ages for the last 8 years. I started off as a cheer leading coach at 14 for OB Gates Elementary. I coached girls ages 5-13, starting with the younger kids (5-7) and eventually moving up with the Seniors (11-13) as I got older. In between that time I started being compensated for nannying with families. I started off with two 18 month olds and had them until my school schedule no longer fit. I then started working with a church every Sunday with children raging from 6 weeks to 12 years old and still work with this church currently. I also for the last year have been with a family full time working with an 11 year old as well as an autistic 7 year old. Recently I’ve started with two boys ages 8 weeks, 2 1/2, and 4! I am accustom to being with a child all day, feeding, playing, putting them down for naps, and bathing them. I am also accustom to doing light housework and helping out where I can around the home when children are napping

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Chesterfield, VA

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Chesterfield Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Chesterfield? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Chesterfield?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in VA? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.

Daycare vs. Hiring a Nanny

Choosing between putting your child in daycare and hiring a nanny can be a tough decision. While nannies are often more expensive, they provide individualized attention and flexibility. Daycares, on the other hand, prioritize socialization. Our Nanny vs Daycare guide can help you determine what's best for your family.
