I started working in childcare when I was 13. I watched a neighbor's 6 month old baby. I held other various babysitting jobs for friends and family as well.the family moved to a new city so I moved on to work for two other Families in my neighborhood by providing after school care for their children on weekdays until the parents came home from work. This would include tasks such as making after school snacks, helping with homework, and making dinner.I moved on to working for Lake Stevens Christian Academy when I turned 16 and was legally able to work. I worked with preschool and elementary aged children after school as well as in the nursery for Sunday church services. I moved on to other jobs at 17.5 but still held various babysitting jobs on the side during that time. I was a part time nanny for a family of three ages approximately 9months,3, and 5 at the time. I have provided live in care for families while parents are on business trips and vacation. Tasks included taking children to school and sports activities as well as providing all meals and parental responsibilities while parents where away. I was a nanny for two girls ages 18 months and 4 years at time of hire, from 2003-2005. I would get the girls up and ready for the day, transport the oldest to and from preschool, make breakfast and lunch, and schedule fun learning and physical daily activities and recorded all meals and activities in daily logs for the parents. I left that job because my husband and I moved into our first house. I am now a stay at home mom of a two year old boy who I will bring with me to my new job. I also watch a friend's 2 year old three days a week. Some might say it's like taking care of twins!

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Marysville, WA

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Marysville Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Marysville? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Marysville?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in WA? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
