A little bit about me

I am an educated and very active single woman without children or pets looking mostly for more on call, travel nanny or full-time work. Free time is spent leading a very healthy lifestyle cooking mostly organic Whole Foods, reading, exercising, attending different shows and spending time at parks, museums and cultural exhibits as well as traveling and volunteering.

I have teaching experience and extensive experience working as an on call nanny, travel nanny, baby nurse and full-time nanny in recent years and also as a babysitter throughout grade school, high school and college. I also have experience working at day care centers (for adults and children). I can send my resume, letters of recommendation and NY police check to you. Please note, I still presently work for the families who wrote reviews for me, but they had to choose an end date from the drop down menu.

"I hired Camille in July 2021 as a travel nanny and she came with us for two weeks to Italy when our son was 18 months. Since then she’s worked days for us when we are in New York. We live in the UK so sadly she isn’t a F/T option for us. Camille is an excellent nanny and exceedingly responsible. Within minutes of meeting her, our shy son was happily playing with her on the floor. I would trust her implicitly in my home and with my child. We were in a villa with a pool and lots of stairs and we knew he was completely safe alone with her, including swimming. When it was too hot, she filled hours drawing, reading, etc. She cooked him nutritious food. She was amenable to what we wanted and needed each day and needed. When we didn’t need her, she was off doing her own thing. She would be a great hire, esp for a family with busy parents or a single parent. She researches local activities and parks and always has a new thing to do. We were fortunate to find her."

"Danelle is a full time nanny for my 3 children, now ages 5,9, and 11. She’s been our nanny for 2 years and is truly amazing. Danelle is a wonderful care giver to my children who goes above and beyond for them. She truly cares about their happiness, health, and safety. Danelle also has a great balance of being loving and caring for them, as well as assisting in teaching them when their behavior is not ok. As a host parent, she constantly goes out of her way to help and even spend her free time with the children. She has been incredible and we will all miss her a great deal. I recommend Danelle strongly and can say that she is a wonderful person and has been so helpful and generous with her time and energy. "

A little bit about me

Hi! I’m Briana and I was born and raised in Austin, TX. I come from a big Mexican family, so I’ve always been around kids and learned how to keep busy households happy and organized. I’ve been a nanny for 7 years, including caring for twins and traveling with families. I love staying active, cooking healthy meals, helping with homework, and creating fun and safe environments where kids can learn and play. I’m moving to NYC soon and I’m excited to explore the city with the children I care for.

"Briana worked for us for the last 2 years and was so great with our 3 girls. They adore her. As a parent she is a wonderful nanny as she is easy company, extremely reliable, fantastic cook, loves cleaning and has a very strong work ethic. She’s a very safe driver, always happy to take kids to any activities/play dates or to make a plan of how to entertain them. She takes direction/feedback very well. Our kids adore her as she’s patient, kind, creative and fun. Briana did school pick ups, prepped and cooked (very healthy) meals, cleaned up after girls, did laundry and often helped with homework. She often covered date nights too. She has traveled with us overseas also and was very quick to figure out a new place and find activities to entertain my kiddos."

"Janelle worked under me at Camp Sloane YMCA over the course of two summers. She demonstrated excellent dedication to her work and connected with the campers like no other. We internally promoted her from counselor to waterfront director, entrusting her to run all of the camp swimming programs. Janelle is organised, passionate, and patient. These traits make her somebody I can count on to get her job done while also ensuring camper safety. Janelle also knows how to inject fun into daily activities when possible. I have seen many kids leaving swim lessons not only having learned new skills, but also gaining confidence and having a good time."

How to Find a Babysitter in New York, NY

Nanny Lane is a child care website meant to help you find a babysitter in your area. Our child care services include background checks, a dedicated hiring agent, and payroll.

Understand Babysitter Responsibilities in New York, NY

Before beginning the search for a babysitter, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a babysitter is the right choice for your child care needs. There are lots of benefits to hiring a babysitter such as getting the flexibility of having some more time for yourself or with your partner. When hiring a babysitter, first, you should explore the differences between a nanny and a babysitter. If you’re looking for occasional child care, babysitters are the right choice for you, but if you’re looking for more frequent care, a nanny may be better for your needs.

From there, you can think about what you expect your babysitter to handle so that you can create a profile for nannies to reach out to you. The boundaries for babysitters’ duties can vary from family to family. However, in general, a babysitter is responsible for making sure your kids’ needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example to housekeeping, laundry, or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your babysitter before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location in New York can impact how much you pay your babysitter.

New York Babysitter Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective babysitters, the next step is to conduct an interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some babysitter interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a babysitter?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open and comfortable doing?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in New York?
  • Do you have a New York driver’s license? Do you own a car?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a babysitter that you’re considering hiring, make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your babysitter. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around babysitter responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming!

And of course, as you learn how to hire a babysitter, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
