I am a mature and responsible adult who has been doing childcare in numerous capacities for over 20 years. I was a babysitter growing up through my teen years for all of the neighborhood kids. After I graduated from high school, I registered with a Nanny Agency and worked through their placements for about 5 years. I worked for several families in which I was contracted for a year at a time. I worked with newborn children and 3-5 year olds most often. I also was able to care for newborn twins with a 5 year old. I took the kids to and from school and activities such as swimming lessons( I was a certified instructor and life guard). We would go to story time weekly at the local library, local parks, musuems, movies on rainy days, arts and crafts, puzzles, reading and writing practice ,feeding ducks, trips to the zoo, etc. Instead of being stuck in the house all day long, I would plan activities on a weekly basis so we could get out and take in the Richmond Culture and all that the city has to offer for kids. I enjoy seeing their minds expand and grow so quickly, children are like sponges in that they absorb so much of their surroundings so it is important to maintain a positive atmosphere. I worked with kids in the pool as well as the child care department and managing summer camps and swimming lessons for hundreds of children. I also worked a program which was for individuals with special needs in the pool. I have experience with learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, Autism, Aspbergers, Down Syndrome, Cerebal Palsey, and other syndromes or diseases. I have an extensive medical background have RN classroom education but have not completed clinicals.I was an EMT and ran with the rescue squad for quite sometime, but that certification has expired. I also was a CPR/First Aid instructor, but those certifications have lapsed. I can easily recertify if preferred.

I have been babysitting for 6 years, starting just in my neighborhood. After I graduated high school, I wanted to start doing it full time. That is when I started nannying for a family with two kids from birth to 4 years old. I have also worked closely with a family of four who have two boys ages 5 and 10.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Midlothian, VA

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Midlothian Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Midlothian? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Midlothian?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in VA? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
