I have been babysitting since I was 11 years old. I have been helping out with my younger brother since he was born. During the school year I mainly babysat after school and/or on the weekends. I would do overnights for close friends and families that my parents had authorized. During the summers I would baby-sit and not only watch the children, but I would also cook them meals, play with them indoors and out, do projects, give baths, and even get them ready for bed if needed. When I was 13, 14, and 15 I lived with my sister during the summers and helped her raise her three children ranging from 6 months to 5 years, in which I was home with them all day while she was at work. I would get them up, make breakfast, get them dressed, and then depending on the day, we would do art projects, go to the park, the pool, and/or go walking around the neighborhood. I cleaned up the house, helped with laundry, and figured out what to have for dinner. In addition I have also had experience with watching three newborns in addition to their older siblings. I also have experience with routine medications and with prescription medications for sickness, including nebulizers and inhalers. I do not have any children of my own, yet, but I have now got 13 nieces and nephews in whom I have a hand in babysitting with since most of them were conceived. I have always loved working with children and I am currently in college and pursuing a degree in nursing.

I have been babysitting ever since I was about 13-14 years old for family and friends, also past employers. I also worked in the childcare system for about 4+ years at a very prestigious childcare center in the Glen Allen Va area. I also have a 3 1/2 year old (my goddaughter) that lives with me, there for i am exposed to children's everyday episodes and what have you.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Spotsylvania Courthouse, VA

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Spotsylvania Courthouse Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Spotsylvania Courthouse? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Spotsylvania Courthouse?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in VA? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
