A little bit about us

Hi everyone! My name is Adrienne, I work in luxury retail sales. I’m a single mother and my hours/days off are atypical. My first baby (boy) is expected in late July. I would like a nanny by September. I would prefer a nanny share for 40 hours a week with other kids, but it’s not necessary.

I live in a beautiful brand new home in Spring Branch and would need a nanny with a driver’s license, car, and lives nearby to come to my home to watch my son. I’m newer to Houston, and my family lives far away from me.

I would interview/consider live-in nanny applicants. We would have to discuss terms and requirements if being considered. I can’t wait to meet my baby and the small but good Do Family can’t wait to meet you!

Best,
Adrienne and Baby Do.

MANDATORY: BILINGUAL with proficiency in Spanish and English!!!

ABOUT US: We are a small family of 3 that needs a kind, bubbly and loving individual who loves to teach and is extremely creative. We are seeking a long-term nanny/house manager who can become part of the family, grow with our son and hold the house together.

CHILD: Our son is 4yrs old (Bday 1/20) and he has been in a 80/20 (Spanish/English) dual language preschool since June 2021. He is in a dual language preK4 program at HISD, its a 50/50.

School starts at 715 am so he must be picked up from our home and dropped off no later than 715 and we registered him for the afterschool program, so you have up until 5:30pm for pickup. On days he has activities pickup will be earlier but the goal is to allow you flexibility to knock out our tasks in the morning OR afternoon while he's at school.

NOTE: We need flexibility for late night care, date nights, overnights and schedule conflicts between our jobs

Must have a reliable car, clean driving record, A1 references, a clean background check and pass a drug test. We will provide a car seat etc.

NEEDS:

- Former educators/teachers a plus
- Pickup/Dropoff from school
- Great cook: shop for/follow recipes we request and have some of your own
- Fresh, healthy breakfast (before school)/ Packed Lunch & Healthy Dinner Meal/Prep for the family

- Grocery/Costco/Target runs
- Keeping our home tidy
- Tracking food inventory
- Someone who has the flexibility to travel on demand, can spend summers abroad with us AND has family in Latin America we can all travel to visit

Last, we prefer the nanny is either:

- A mother of adult children, meaning they can take care of themselves
- Or no children, not engaged/married - a virtual student or college graduate who wants a career in childcare

Types of Nanny Jobs and Nanny Responsibilities in Houston, TX

Before you start looking for a nanny job, it's essential to learn about the different types of nannies and how they compare to each other so that you make sure you’re looking for the right opportunities.

The different types of nanny jobs have different nanny responsibilities. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. However, in general, a nanny is responsible for making sure the children's needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to make sure your expectations are aligned with the family.

There are temporary nanny jobs, even seasonal nanny jobs like summer nanny jobs. Beyond seasonal and temporary nanny positions, there are differences between full-time and part-time nanny jobs. The primary difference being the number of hours you spend at your nanny job every week. For full-time nannies, there are options for live in nanny positions and live-out positions in Houston. Live-out positions are more common, but each family has their own set of needs that require different types of care, and live in nanny positions can be exactly what some families want. If you're looking to explore live in nanny positions , it's even more important to create a shared set of expectations around hours, responsibilities, and what is expected of you when you're not on the clock.

How to Interview for a Nanny Job in Houston, TX

Once you start connecting with prospective employers, the next step is a nanny job interview. Here is a list of some nanny interview questions to prepare for:

  • What do you think children like best about you?
  • What kind of activities will you do with children this age?
  • How do you handle problems that arise behaviorally and emotionally with kids this age?

Beyond answering questions, families will want you to have your nanny references ready and ask any questions to show initiative. The nanny job interview is an excellent opportunity to get aligned on the nanny job expectations. By doing this, you can get off on the right foot with your future employer.
