A little bit about us

We're due with our first (a boy!) early July and researching childcare options.

We're exploring Nanny shares and still determining days/hours - but typically "normal" business hours Mon-Fri. We do have one very sweet and friendly dog named Birdie who needs to be let out front at lunch. Otherwise she has a doggy door!

A little bit about us

I have 2 girls ages 2 & 5. They've both been cared for in home by an Au Pair since they were born but I am going through a divorce right now so I'm in a pickle, trying to explore all alternative options. I would love to find and be part of a great nanny share to contribute to, or even a childcare exchange/ childcare swap where we swap childcare time (instead of money) with another single mom or family experiencing a similar situation.

This March, I'm looking to fill a full time- live in position approx 45-51 hrs a week. Average pay is $800/mo but includes the benefit to live in (apartment) rent free, furnished room, and includes utilities, basic groceries, internet, Xumo stream box with cable TV channels, use of car & gas primarily for picking up/shuffling kids around. We also like to include you in any family activities, and will cover the costs as much as possible (going out to eat, b-day parties, occasional outings to local events etc)
I work full-time in office, 9am-5pm. Looking for care M-F 8:30am- 5:30pm, plus twice a week, I also need care in the evening from 6:30pm-9:30pm on Tues. & Thurs.

For Childcare exchange/swap option, I am available to look after kids MWF 6pm-10pm, & weekends I'm free all day, or 2pm-10pm.

A little about me & the girls:
We are fun, loving, & active girls. We love going on walks, playing at the park, riding bikes, scooters, skates, & dancing Ballet Folklorico. I am a vegetarian and try to feed my kids mostly healthy meals but they are not vegetarian. We speak English at home, but the Au Pairs we've hosted have spoken Spanish to the kids so they know quite a bit of Spanish. A bilingual caregiver would be a plus, but not a deal breaker. I prefer to limit screentime to just a little bit in the evening.

The 5yo is in Kinder, and needs to be picked up from school each weekday. The 2yo is a feisty, funny, loving little girl who is home all day but enjoys trips to the library, park, and other toddler activities/outings. Let's connect!

The different types of nanny jobs have different nanny responsibilities. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. However, in general, a nanny is responsible for making sure the children's needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to make sure your expectations are aligned with the family.

There are temporary nanny jobs, even seasonal nanny jobs like summer nanny jobs. Beyond seasonal and temporary nanny positions, there are differences between full-time and part-time nanny jobs. The primary difference being the number of hours you spend at your nanny job every week. For full-time nannies, there are options for live in nanny positions and live-out positions in Austin. Live-out positions are more common, but each family has their own set of needs that require different types of care, and live in nanny positions can be exactly what some families want. If you're looking to explore live in nanny positions , it's even more important to create a shared set of expectations around hours, responsibilities, and what is expected of you when you're not on the clock.

How to Interview for a Nanny Job in Austin, TX

Once you start connecting with prospective employers, the next step is a nanny job interview. Here is a list of some nanny interview questions to prepare for:

  • What do you think children like best about you?
  • What kind of activities will you do with children this age?
  • How do you handle problems that arise behaviorally and emotionally with kids this age?

Beyond answering questions, families will want you to have your nanny references ready and ask any questions to show initiative. The nanny job interview is an excellent opportunity to get aligned on the nanny job expectations. By doing this, you can get off on the right foot with your future employer.
