The Benscoter Family

Ventura, CA
$20/hr

A little bit about us…
We’re looking seeking a part-time, in-home Childcare Provider for a 2-year-old and newborn.

This position is based in Ventura, and the weekly schedule will be 4 full days a week. Start date and weekly schedule has some flexibility. Some hours with just our baby boy, and some hours with both children.

Our ideal childcare provider would recognize play as central to a child’s growth as a capable, competent and self-initiated learner. We are looking for someone who is caring, proactive and attentive as well as supportive of our ideology of a screen-free approach (phones, computers, television, etc.). We’re looking for someone who will accompany our little ones in lots of outdoor play, walks to the playground or other fun activities.

We both have flexible schedules and will spend a lot of time with our childcare provider, and we hope that you will share our values of: kindness, acceptance, and honesty.

We also have a dog (a friendly black lab), so will need to be okay with animals.

Responsibilities:
• Implementing and following daily routine, including nap time
• Changing clothes and diapers, including cloth diapers
• Picking up from daycare
• Light meal preparation
• Light housekeeping (Picking up at end of day)
• Picking up from daycare

Requirements:
• Must be comfortable with dogs (We have a very loving Labrador!)
• Must have a car and valid driver’s license (We will provide car seats)
• Must be open to or previously trained in the RIE or Pikler method of childcare
Flexibility while using this approach is needed
• Must be CPR and First Aid certified
• Must have open, transparent and ongoing communication with parents
• No screen time for children (phones, computers, television)

What is an Infant Nanny in Ventura, CA

Preparing for a Nanny Interview for an Infant Care Position

Once you start connecting with prospective employers, the next step is an infant nanny job interview. Here is a list of some infant nanny interview questions to prepare for:

  • What is your specific experience with this age group?
  • Are you Infant CPR/First Aid certified in Ventura, CA? Are you willing to be trained?
  • How do you handle a crying baby?
  • How often do you usually offer parents updates during the day?
  • What do you feed an infant? At 0-3 months? 3-6 months? 6-9 months? 9-12 months?
  • How do you set up the infant’s crib for a nap?
  • What kind of activities will you plan to engage my baby?

You should be prepared with your references for past nanny jobs, and ideally, past infant jobs. Prior to the infant nanny interview, be sure to think about questions that you might have for the family. This is a great time to ask questions about the responsibilities and compensation for the infant nanny position. To make sure everyone has a shared understanding of the role and responsibilities, we recommend asking for a job offer or a nanny contract. By doing this, you can get off on the right foot with your future employer.
